MT. PLEASANT, Mich. (May 21) – Waynesburg University sophomore second baseman
Wes White Jr (Pittsburgh, Pa./Perry) was named to the Division III Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Mideast Region First-Team, announced the organization on Wednesday.
White finished second in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) with a career-best .432 batting average (60-for-139). He led the league and ranked eighth in Division III with seven triples. While also ranked among the conference leaders with career-high marks in hits (60), on-base percentage (.509) and stolen bases (21).
From the leadoff spot in the order, White collected 17 extra-base hits (10 doubles, seven triples), scored 39 runs, posted 23 RBI, drew 18 walks and registered a team-best .604 slugging percentage. The sophomore posted a pair of 15-game hitting streaks during the season and reached base safely in all 36 games played. White also finished with 17 multi-hit games, including six games with three-plus hits.
The Pittsburgh native recorded a .975 fielding percentage on 162 chances while making the transition to second base after starting 35 games at shortstop last year.
White, a first-team all-conference selection, is the first Yellow Jacket player to earn ABCA all-region honors since former outfielder/pitcher
Eric Holt accomplished the feat in 2003 and 2004.
The PAC placed a total of nine baseball standouts on the ABCA All-Mideast Region teams, including five on the first-team.
