Waynesburg junior hurler
Autumn Minor (Waynesburg, Pa./Waynesburg Central) (11-8) tossed her 17th complete game of the season, allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits with one walk and five strikeouts in seven innings of work. W&J starter Rebecca Nachreiner (16-6) suffered the loss after allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits and striking out 13.
The top-seeded Presidents (26-11) took an early 1-0 lead with back-to-back hits to start the bottom of the first, including a RBI double by second baseman Katelynn Falleroni.
The Yellow Jackets responded in the fourth with three runs on three hits and two errors. Freshman center fielder
Amber Pivik (Washington, Pa./Washington) started the rally with a single before scoring on a bases-loaded single by Minor Sophomore third baseman
Bre Kokladas (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) followed with another bases-loaded single that scored junior catcher
Kristyn Klueg (East Northport, N.Y./John H. Glenn), who reached base via a throwing error. The final run of the inning came when pinch runner
Krista Jackson (Corry, Pa./Corry) scored from third on a two-out fielding error
W&J countered with a run in the fifth on two hits and one error to trim the lead to 3-2. The Presidents looked as if they would send the came into extra innings in the seventh when designated hitter Tanesha Minney reached base with a leadoff double that bounced off the top of the outfield wall. However, Minor then registered back-to-back strikeouts, including a called third strike against PAC Player of the Year Amanda Howard, before inducing the game-ending ground-out to third base.
Minor finished with two of the Yellow Jackets' five hits with shortstop
Haley Kramer (Ellwood City, Pa./Laurel), Kokladas and Pivik collecting the other three singles.
The win over W&J was the first in four games this season for Waynesburg, who lost 1-0 to the Presidents in yesterday's tournament opener.
