WASHINGTON, Pa. (May 3) – The Yellow Jackets suffered a 2-1 loss against Bethany College at Brooks Park on Saturday afternoon in the championship game of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Tournament.
Waynesburg University, who entered the double-elimination tournament as the fourth-seed, finishes the year with a 19-19 overall record. The 19 wins is the highest single-season total in recent program history. Meanwhile, Bethany College improves to 22-21 and earns the automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament after winning the PAC Tournament with a perfect 3-0 record.
Freshman starter
Amanda Baughman (Washington, Pa./Washington) (6-9) suffered the loss for the Yellow Jackets after allowing two runs on five hits in 5.0 innings with no walks and three strikeouts. Senior hurler Heather Immesberger (16-8) earned the complete-game victory for the third-seeded Bison, scattering one run on four hits, fanning 12 and walking two.
Waynesburg jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second when junior first baseman
Autumn Minor (Waynesburg, Pa./Waynesburg Central) belted a solo homer to left field – her sixth of the season and second of the tournament. Bethany answered the Yellow Jackets' tally in the third when center fielder Brittany Leslie belted a solo shot of her own to even the score at 1-1.
The Bison rallied for a run in the fifth to take the lead, using a two-out double by left fielder Chelsea Butler to score pinch runner Nikki Gillis from second base.

Amy Mills (Clear Spring, Md./Clear Spring) was called out at the plate when attempting to score from second on a one-out single by freshman center fielder
Amber Pivik (Washington, Pa./Washington). While in the seventh, the first two Waynesburg batters reached base with a walk, but the Yellow Jackets were unsuccessful on sacrifice bunt attempts with the next two batters before Immesberger forced a pop-out to end the game.
Four different Waynesburg players collected hits in the contest, as the Yellow Jackets left four runners on base.
The runner-up finish for Waynesburg is the second in the last four years, as the Yellow Jackets lost the 2005 conference championship game to the Bison at Bethany, W.Va.
