NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. (Aug. 29) – The Waynesburg University women's tennis team struggled in their season opener, as they were swept by the host team from Westminster, 9-0, in a non-conference matchup of Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) members.

 

Laura Garcia fell at number one singles 6-3, 6-1. Carrie Daubert dropped a 6-4, 6-1 match at number two singles. Allie Horochak fell 6-0, 6-1 at number three singles. Jess Mally suffered a 6-1, 6-1 loss at number four. Jessica Kody slipped by the finals of 6-3, 6-1 at number five. Melissa Faulkner rounded out the singles action by falling 6-0, 6-1 at number six singles.

 

In doubles, Garcia and Kody lost 8-3 at number one. Mally and Horochak fell by the same score at number two. And the Daubert/Faulkner combo lost 8-5.

 

The match was the season-opener for both squads and Waynesburg will try to right the ship on Thursday, Sept. 4, when they host Fairmont State for their home opener.
