Waynesburg volleyball team goes 1-1 in day two at Saint Vincent

LATROBE, Pa. (Aug. 30) – The Waynesburg University volleyball team finished their two-day run at the Bearcat Challenge, hosted by Saint Vincent College, at 3-1 following a split of their two contests on Saturday.

 

The Yellow Jackets (3-1) saw their modest two-game season-opening win streak ended during their first game of the day as they fell by the score of 3-1 to Division II opponent, Fairmont State.

 

Senior Amanda Staudt rolled up a team-best 40 assists in the loss to the Falcons, while sophomore Rachell Storm was tops among the Jackets with 22 digs.

 

Senior Amanda Jo Morgan was the team's top attacker against FSU as she completed 17 kills.

 

Waynesburg bounced back for a victory in their second contest of the day as they beat Pitt-Bradford 3-2.

 

Morgan and fellow senior Laurie Lindner tallied 18 kills each in the win over the Panthers. Morgan added six blocks in the win. Storm picked up three aces against Pitt-Bradford.

 

Staudt added 46 more assists in the victory for the Yellow Jackets and freshman Jordan Barton picked up 24 digs against the Panthers. Linder added 20 digs in the win.

 

With their weekend at Saint Vincent in the books, the Yellow Jackets face a long break from competition before hosting Frostburg State on Sept. 10.
