Women's tennis falls to Goucher College

Freshman Califf picks up second victory of the season

Box Score

TOWSON, Md. (Sept. 13) – Freshman Cassie Califf won her second singles match of the year, but it was the only victory for the Waynesburg University women's tennis team as they fell 8-1 to Goucher College on Saturday.

Califf picked up her second victory on the year at number-six singles, and was impressive doing so as she beat Goucher's Vickey Casey 6-1, 6-4.

The biggest heartbreak of the day had to belong to Waynesburg junior Allie Horochak, who dropped a 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5) match to Joan Pulupa at number two singles.

The Golden Gophers of Goucher (1-0) swept through the doubles competition en route to a win that dropped Waynesburg to 0-3 on the season.

The Yellow Jackets will take another shot at their first win of the year on Thursday, Sept. 18, when they travel to Grove City to open Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play against the 21-time defending conference-champion Wolverines. The match, which will be a dual match for both the men's and women's team, is scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.
