WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 27) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team suffered a 3-1 loss to Bethany College on Saturday afternoon. This loss brought the Yellow Jackets' season record to 5-3-1.
Bethany (5-4-1) got out to a quick start, scoring two goals in the first half. The Bison scores came courtesy of Cassie Spalding and Loren McAnany, the fifth of the season for each player, respectively. Ruthie Pettle assisted on McAnany's tally.
The Visitors added their third and final goal early in the second half and it was Spalding doing the damage again.
With three goals scored already against them, Waynesburg just had too much to overcome. A late unassisted goal scored by Courtney Ebersole with 26:57 left in the game brought about the final score of 3-1.
Waynesburg was out-shot 14-12 overall, and beaten on shots on goal, by a four-to-two margin. Paige Yeich got the start at goalkeeper and stopped one shot while playing the first half. Katrina Kelly played the second half and stopped a total of three shots.
The team will travel to St. Vincent next on October 3, but the next home game will not be until October 10 against Grove City.
