WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Jan. 7) – The men's basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to .500 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) as they downed visiting Westminster by the final of 88-82.
Things started out well for the Yellow Jackets (5-7, 2-2) as they jumped out to a 10-3 lead on their opponents. Waynesburg eventually grabbed a 40-38 advantage at halftime, and battled the Titans (2-12, 2-2) tooth and nail throughout the final 20 minutes of the contest.
With the game tied at 67-67 and just 7:43 to go in the game, the Jackets took the lead for good with a 6-0 run to go up 73-67 following a lay up by senior guard Zack Engel. The Jackets never relinquished the lead for the rest of the contest.
Senior guard Jason Clark was big for Waynesburg as he poured in a game and career-high 25 points on 10-16 shooting. The Moon native showed good touch from long range as he drilled five-of-nine from beyond the arc. Township
Junior guard Ryan Courneen added 19 in the victory, sophomore forward Jeff Young dropped in 13 and senior guard Dan Happe chipped in 12 to help Waynesburg to the win.
The Titans were led by a stellar performance from junior forward Ryne Murray, who rolled up 17 points and yanked down a game-best 15 rebounds.
Waynesburg will try to make it two in a row on Saturday, Jan. 10, when they travel to Geneva to face the Golden Tornadoes.
