Women's tennis battles hard at Geneva

Waynesburg drops 5-4 match to Golden Tornadoes

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. (Oct. 10) – The Waynesburg University women's tennis team put up a good fight on the road against Geneva, but the Golden Tornadoes were able to pull out a 5-4 win over the Yellow Jackets on Saturday.

 

Waynesburg senior Jess Mally had a big day on the court with wins at fourth singles (6-1, 6-1) and third doubles. Mally teamed up with fellow senior Allie Horochak to beat Geneva's Maura McLaughlin and Bethany Ragonesi 8-6.

 

The turning point of the match came at number-one singles, where the Jackets' Rebekah Reyes battled the Tornadoes' Chelsea Cover through three tough sets. Cover was able to pick up the victory by the final scores of 6-1, 3-6, 6-2.

 

The Jackets were able to take three-of-five singles matches. Sophomore Jessica Kody was victorious at third singles (6-2, 6-2) and classmate Jenny McAndrews added a victory at sixth singles (6-3, 7-5).

 

Waynesburg returns to competition on Wednesday, Oct. 14, when they travel to Maryland to face Frostburg State.
