WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 20) – The Waynesburg University women's tennis team clinched third placed in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) regular season with a 5-3 win over Chatham on Tuesday.
Though the Yellow Jackets (5-5, 4-2) get the win, they will have to finish the match at third singles between Waynesburg's Allie Horochak and Chatham's Alisa Boslett tomorrow for conference tournament seeding purposes.
The Jackets jumped out to a big advantage after sweeping the three doubles matches. Rebekah Reyes and Stephanie Ball downed Barb Petty and Alexa Coughenour 8-4 at first doubles, while sophomores Jessica Kody and Kelsey Diesel gritted out an 8-6 victory at second doubles over Boslett and Meg Padula.
The home team completed the doubles sweep when seniors Horochak and Jess Mally picked up an 8-4 triumph over Kaitlyn Lucas and Ashley Carter.
Kody and Diesel clinched the victory with singles wins at fourth and sixth singles, respectively. Both players won in straight sets, with Kody downing Padula 6-2, 6-0, and Diesel beating Jenny Murphy 6-2, 7-5.
After wrapping up the match at third singles, Waynesburg will turn its full attention towards the conference championships, which will be held Friday and Saturday, Oct. 23-24, at the Pennbriar Athletic Club in Erie.
