WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 6) – The Waynesburg women's tennis team put together a dominant performance while earning their first clean sweep victory of the season on Tuesday.
The Yellow Jackets beat Bethany in a non-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match by the final of 9-0 at the court on the campus of Waynesburg. Sophomore Rebekah Reyes led the assault with wins at first singles and doubles.
The first-year player beat Bethany's Sarah Wood by the final of 6-0, 6-1, and also teamed up with fellow newcomer Stephanie Ball to defeat Wood and Michell Lancaster 8-4.
Seniors Allie Horochack and Jess Mally, along with sophomores Jessica Kody and Kelsey Diesel also earned two victories each on the day.
Horochak and Mally picked up an impressive 8-0 victory over Kirstie Pomilio and Vanessa Manning at third doubles. Horochak took a three-set win (1-6, 6-4, 11-9) from Brittani Seeman, while Mally chipped in a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Michelle Lancaster to Waynesburg's winning effort.
Kody and Diesel beat Seeman and Andrea Witzmann at number-two doubles by the final score of 9-7. After the pair split up to compete in singles action, Kody put together a 6-0, 6-4 win over Witzmann at third singles, while Diesel Manning 6-0, 6-0.
The Jackets return to the courts on Thursday, Oct. 8, when they travel to Latrobe, Pa. to face Saint Vincent.
