Women's soccer shuts out La Roche at home

Jackets down Red Hawks 1-0

Box Score

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 9) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team snapped a five-game losing streak and ended La Roche's seven-game winning streak by downing the Red Hawks 1-0 under a constant rain at John F. Wiley Stadium.

After a scoreless first half, neither team could find the net as the game started to wind under 20 minutes to go. However, with 14:29 to go, junior Brittney Brown took a feed from classmate Brittany Spitznogle on a breakaway and buried the ball behind La Roche keeper Raelene Zajac to give the Jackets the lead.

Waynesburg withstood a late rally from the visitors to pick up their fourth victory of the season (4-7). Sophomore keeper Jaime Williamson did a great job in net as she picked up the complete-game shutout by making seven saves.

The loss dropped La Roche to 9-3 on the year.

The Jackets won't have much time to savor their win as they travel to Washington & Jefferson for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match with the Presidents on Saturday. The contest is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
