HAMPDEN-SYDNEY
, Va.
(Feb. 22) – The Waynesburg University baseball team ended their run in the Floyd B. Wilcox Memorial Tournament on Sunday with a 25-10 loss at the hands of Moravian.

The loss dropped the Yellow Jackets to 1-2 on the season, while the Greyhounds improved to 1-2.

Though it didn't end how they wanted it to, the contest started out well for the Jackets as they scored four runs in the top of the first. Leftfielder Kenny Grant drove in a pair of runs with a double, centerfielder Rob Cool Jr and designated hitter Patrick Logan also drove in one run a piece to go up 4-0.

However, over the next two-and-a-half innings, Moravian out-scored Waynesburg 13-1 to take a 13-5 lead at the end of the third.

After two scoreless innings, the Jackets put up a three-spot in the top of the sixth, thanks to a two-run single by shortstop Anthony Defilippo and an RBI single by third baseman Corey Goeggelman.

Unfortunately, Moravian added five runs in the bottom of the sixth and seven more in the bottom of the seventh to effectively put the game out of reach.

Phillip Spence got the start for the Greyhounds and worked 5.2 innings on the hill to pick up the win. Waynesburg's Chris Dittmar made his first collegiate start and lasted just 1.1 innings, gave up eight runs and took the loss.

Right fielder Andrew Spargur had a good day at the ball park, going three-for-four with two runs scored. Defilippo drove in three runs on the day

With their three-game trip to Virginia complete, Waynesburg returns home until March 9, when they will play the first game of their spring break trip to Winter Haven, Fla. They are scheduled to face Mount Union in that contest.
