CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. (Sept. 12) – The Waynesburg women's volleyball team split a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matches during a tri-match at Thomas More College on Saturday.
The Yellow Jackets opened the day with a 3-0 sweep of Chatham and followed that up by getting swept 3-0 by the home-team Saints. The split gives Waynesburg a 3-5 overall record and a 1-1 mark in PAC play.
During their opener against the Cougars, the Jackets won by the set scores of 25-20, 25-16, 25-15. Sophomores Jordan Barton and Carly Schubert led the offense with 10 kills each. Helping to set them up for the attack was freshman Carly Smithyman, who racked up 15 assists in her first collegiate start.
Junior Rachell Storm and freshman Presley Cupp led the way, defensively, with 19 and 15 digs, respectively.
Things didn't go nearly as well against Thomas More, as the Jackets fell by the scores of 25-7, 25-12, 25-13. Barton had a team-high five kills in the match, while Storm added 18 digs and Smithyman chipped in 12 assists.
Waynesburg returns to action with a match against the defending PAC champions from Westminster on Wednesday, Sept. 16 at home in the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse. The contest is set to start at 7 p.m.
