LATROBE, Pa. – The Waynesburg University women's volleyball team picked up its first victory of the year Friday afternoon when they downed Pitt-Greensburg 3-1 during their opening match of the Saint Vincent Bearcat Challenge.
After dropping the first set 25-19, the Jackets (1-1) bounced back by taking the next three sets, each by the final score 25-19.
Several Jackets enjoyed breakout performances in the victory, including sophomore Jordan Barton who recorded her first collegiate double-double by tallying personal bests in kills (16) and digs (30).
Sophomore Carly Schubert led the attack with a personal high in kills (17), while freshman Madison Sano put together a career-high 37 assists to lead the Jackets.
Other top performers included junior Rachell Storm and freshman Presley Cupp, who totaled 32 and 26 digs, respectively. Jenna Stoltzfus tallied a team-high and personal-best six solo blocks.
Waynesburg will try to get to 2-1 for the season tonight when they face Fairmont State. The Jackets will finish their run at the challenge on Saturday against Houghton (N.Y.).
