Waynesburg men fall at Grove City

Wolverines ride hot shooting performance to 65-48 win over Jackets

Box Score

GROVE CITY, Pa. (Jan. 30) – Grove City's efficiency from the field proved to be too much for the Waynesburg men's basketball team to overcome as the Wolverines downed the Yellow Jackets by the final of 65-48 in this past Saturday's Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) showdown.

The loss dropped the Yellow Jackets to 2-15 on the season and 0-8 in PAC play. The Wolverines continue to stay right in the thick of the race for the regular season conference crown by going to 7-2 in PAC action and 13-7 overall.

The Jackets never led in the contest as Grove City scored the first four points of the game and never looked back. After 20 minutes of play, the Wolverines held a 38-23 edge on their competition. In the second half, the home team opened up leads as large as 23 points before closing out the contest.

As previously mentioned, GCC showcased outstanding accuracy while shooting the basketball. They connected on 52 percent of their shots (28-of-54), while Waynesburg converted at a 33 percent pace (17-of-52). The Wolverines were also very efficient from beyond the three-point arc (three-of-six) and held a sizeable advantage in rebounding (41 total boards to 29).

Freshman point guard Ben Altmeyer put up nine points to lead all Jackets in scoring, while freshman center Kurt Bonnet added eight. Grove City was paced by senior center Andy O'Keefe's game-high 20 points.

Waynesburg will try to find the winning formula when they travel to New Wilmington for a PAC showdown with Westminster on Wednesday, Feb. 3.
