Jacket volleyball team goes 1-1 at home tri-match

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 22) – The Waynesburg University women's volleyball team went 1-1 during their home Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) triangular match Friday night, sweeping the Chatham Cougars and falling in straight sets to the Saint Vincent Bearcats.

The Yellow Jackets (8-18, 2-12) snapped a ten-match losing streak by beating the Cougars (4-24, 0-13) by the set scores of 25-21, 26-24 and 25-11. 

Freshman outside hitter Katelyn Blaich reached the double digit mark in kills with a team-high 11 successful attacks. Junior outside hitter Jordan Barton enjoyed a successful match in terms of her serving by racking up four service aces and a .947 serve percentage. Freshman setter Natalie Ranallo paced the team with 15 assists.

In their second match of the evening, the Jackets fell to the Bearcats (21-8, 10-5) by the set scores of 25-22, 29-27 and 25-9. Freshman middle hitter Mabel Culp recorded a season-high and team-high seven kills, good for a .278 hitting percentage. Freshman libero Shayla Mitrik paced the Jackets in digs by notching 14. Ranallo continued to lead the team in assists, racking up 15 in the loss and adding a season-high seven digs to her efforts.

Friday night's tri-match was a special one as the Jackets took part in the “Dig Pink” program to help raise money for breast cancer research and awareness.

The Jackets wrap up their home schedule next Thursday night when the Thiel Tomcats come to town for a 7 p.m. PAC matchup.
