HERSHEY, Pa. (Nov. 13) – The Waynesburg University wrestling team got the dual match portion of their schedule off to a strong start on Saturday by going 3-0 at the Duals at Hershey.

The Yellow Jackets (3-0) faced a trio of strong opponents in Division II Shippensburg, Johns Hopkins and York in that order. After winning both of the first two matches by the final score of 21-12, the Jackets gritted out an 18-17 victory over the Spartans to end the day.

Sophomore 125-pounder Alex Crown, senior 141-pounder Nick Garber and junior Jared Roberts all went 3-0 on the day and the trio picked up some impressive victories. Roberts led the charge with three victories by fall, including a key pin in 1:28 over York's Jeff Goldhagen, which put the Jackets up 18-7. Garber picked up his most impressive win of the year against the Spartans by beating Chris Albright 5-3. Albright transferred to York after serving as the starter at the University of Pittsburgh last season.

Freshman 149-pounder Luke Lohr went 2-1 on the day, while freshman Levi Hosselrode, junior Garrett Johnston, freshman Sam Lombardo, junior Alex Evanoff, sophomore Cody Catalina and sophomore Marty Kisla won one match each.

The Waynesburg mat men return to action next Saturday when they'll rematch with York as part of a quad-match hosted by the Spartans. The Jackets will also face Messiah and Division II Lake Erie starting at 12 p.m.
