BEREA, Ohio (Dec. 29) – Despite a double-double from junior forward Jeff Young, the Waynesburg men's basketball team couldn't overcome an eight-point halftime deficit and fell 86-76 to Baldwin-Wallace on Wednesday night.
Waynesburg (4-6) got off to a strong start and led by five (28-23) with 3:52 to go in the first half. Unfortunately, B-W (4-7) went on a 10-0 run over the next two minutes to turn a five-point deficit into a 33-28 advantage. The visiting Jackets cut the lead back to three at 33-30, but Baldwin-Wallace rebounded to score the final five points of the half to take a 38-30 lead into the locker room.
B-W never trailed in the second half, although Waynesburg was able to trim the lead to as little as three on multiple occasions early in the period. Baldwin-Wallace forged several large double-digit advantages that were fueled by a strong performance from the free throw line in the second half (17-of-21).
As previously mentioned, Young powered the Waynesburg attack. He racked up a team-high 20 points and pulled down a contest-best 13 rebounds for his second double-double in as many games. He also dished out a game-high five assists on the evening. Senior guards Steven Iser and Erik Noone poured in 12 points each, while junior forward Lou Galante contributed 10 points off the bench.
The Yellow Jackets will face off with another Ohio opponent tomorrow when they meet Mt. Union in Alliance. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
