WAYNESBURG, Pa. (April 10) – The Waynesburg University baseball team won their third game in a row as part of a two-game split of a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader with Bethany on Saturday.

The Yellow Jackets took game one by the final of 2-1, before falling in game two 7-5. With the split, Waynesburg is now 9-14 on the season and 5-7 in PAC play, while the Bison's season record now stands at 11-9 (3-6 in conference).

The Jackets struck first in the opener with a run in the fifth inning. Right fielder Nick Berdine roped a one-out double and came around to score two batters late on an RBI single by catcher Noah Pust.

After Bethany tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the sixth, Waynesburg shortstop Anthony DeFilippo, who reached on a fielder's choice, scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the frame, which put his team up 2-1. After Bethany led off the seventh with a double off Jacket starter Zac Rhoades, sophomore Chris Dittmar came in out of the bullpen and closed the door on the late rally.

Rhoades picked up the victory after throwing six innings of seven-hit ball. He walked three and struck out two as he improved to 2-2 on the season.

In game two, Waynesburg jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second thanks to a two-run homer by second baseman Wes White Jr, which also scored designated hitter Bryan Leones. Unfortunately, the Bison went on to score the next seven runs (five in the top of the third and two in the top of the fifth) to take a 7-2 lead. The Jackets put up three runs in the bottom of the fifth, but the Bison were able to halt the comeback try.

Tim Knight started on the mound and took the loss after giving up five runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks over 2.2 innings of work.

During the split, White, DeFilippo, third baseman Corey Goeggelman, first baseman Bill Hanning and centerfielder Rob Cool Jr picked up two hits each to lead the offense. White had a team-high two RBI and two runs scored.

The Jackets are scheduled to return to action on April 16, when they host Saint Vincent for a nine-inning contest. First pitch is set to be thrown at 3 p.m.
