WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 21) – The Waynesburg University women's tennis team rolled to its first Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory of the season by downing Thiel 9-0 on Tuesday.
The Yellow Jackets (2-3, 1-1) lost just seven games the entire match, three of which came during a 6-0, 6-3 win by junior Kelsey Diesel at fourth singles. Freshmen Markie Gustafson and Logan McDonald both earned a pair of shutouts on the afternoon. Gustafson won 6-0, 6-0 at second singles and teamed up with Rebeka Reyes for an 8-0 victory at first doubles. McDonald picked up a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at sixth singles, after teaming up with Jenny McAndrews to shut their opponents out 8-0 at third doubles.
The Jackets also picked up an 8-0 shutout win at second doubles courtesy of Diesel and fellow junior Jessica Kody. All six Waynesburg players that competed in the match went 2-0 on the day.
The Jackets will try to keep their winning ways going on Thursday, Sept. 23, when they head to Beaver Falls for a 3:30 p.m. match with Geneva.
