Women's soccer downs Muskingum 5-1

Yellow Jackets stretch unbeaten streak to six games

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 22) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team ran its unbeaten streak to six games with a 5-1 home win over Muskingum on Wednesday night at John F. Wiley Stadium.

 

The Yellow Jackets (5-2-2) dominated the game from start to finish, outshooting the Muskies (1-7) 28 to 11. Junior forward Courtney Ebersole led the way with two goals, including the first of the night, which came 16:05 into the contest. Just over 20 minutes later, senior Danielle Danhires made it 2-0 Waynesburg on an unassisted score.

 

Just seconds before halftime, junior Melody Cox put the Yellow Jackets ahead 3-0 when she beat Muskingum's keeper on a one-on-one breakaway. The home team continued to play well in the second half as freshman Taylor Augustine made it 4-0 off an assist from junior Terrin Crist. Crist picked up her second assist of the night when she set Ebersole up for her second score of the evening to make it 5-0 Jackets at the 60-minute mark.

 

Muskingum managed to score in the 80th minute, ending the scoreless streak of junior keeper Katrina Kelly, which lasted better than 280 minutes over three games. Kelly made four saves on the night.

 

The Jackets' current six-game unbeaten streak is the program's longest in more than five years. Waynesburg will try to stretch it to seven games on Monday, Sept. 27, during a road game at Penn State Beaver, which is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
