Women's volleyball picks up 3-0 home win

Yellow Jackets down La Roche at Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 29) - The Waynesburg women's volleyball team downed the La Roche Redhawks (4-8) in straight sets, winning 3-0 at the Marisa Fieldhouse Wednesday night.

The Yellow Jackets (7-8) took the first set 25-12, and built on that momentum, winning the second set by the score of 25-7. The third set, which saw head coach Stephanie Benkowski play mostly freshmen, ended 25-20.

Junior middle hitter Lauren Wagner paced the Jackets attack, finishing with six kills, while adding a solo block and assisting on another. Freshman Sarah Drysdale doubled her kills for the season, finishing the match with four on eight attempts for an impressive .500 hitting percentage, while also adding a team-high seven digs. Freshman setter Natalie Ranallo led the way in assists, yielding a team-high 14 in the win.

The Yellow Jackets have now exceeded their win total from a year ago, and with a win at Carlow College on Thurs., Sept. 30, would move to .500.
