WAYNESBURG, Pa. (January 19) – It was another game that turned into a tale of two halves for the Waynesburg men's basketball team as the Yellow Jackets fell to the Geneva Golden Tornadoes 81-66 on Wednesday night.
Things started well for the Jackets (5-12), who took a one-point lead into the locker rooms at half and held onto that lead well into the second half. With 12:29 remaining in the contest and the Jackets clinging to a one-point advantage, the Golden Tornadoes (12-4) got hot from the floor and were able to turn the tables on their hosts. Geneva shot 59 percent from the field in the second half and out-scored the Jackets 38-22 over the final 20 minutes of play to win convincingly.
Waynesburg was led in scoring by junior forward Jeff Young, who finished a rebound shy of a double-double with 12 points, nine rebounds and two blocked shots. Senior guard Steven Iser was the other Jacket scorer in double figures with 10 points, while junior guard Larry Alexander came off the bench to score nine points on three-of-five shooting from behind the arc.
The Jackets will have a week off before hosting the Bethany Bison at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse on Wednesday, Jan. 26.
