Hotek goal, Kelly shutout leads Yellow Jackets to 1-0 PAC triumph

Box Score

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 15) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team notched its second-straight 1-0 shutout win on Saturday night by taking down Westminster at John F. Wiley Stadium.

It was the Yellow Jackets' first win over Westminster since before the 2001 campaign and improved the team's overall record to 14-2. The Jackets' 4-1 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) record gives the team sole possession of third place in the conference standings.

Waynesburg picked up the eventual game-winning score during the 33rd minute of action thanks to freshman Becky Hotek, who notched her fourth goal of the season. Sophomore Taylor Augustine assisted on the tally, giving her a team-high eight assists for the year. Senior goalkeeper Katrina Kelly made Hotek's goal stand up by stopping all six shots on goal and picking up her eighth save of the year.

The Jackets grinded out the victory, despite being out-shot 12-7, including a 7-1 deficit in the second period. Saturday's game was also part of Waynesburg's Kick Pancreatic Cancer event, which helps to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer research and prevention.

The Yellow Jackets will continue their push to lock up a PAC playoff berth on Wednesday, Oct. 19, when they travel to Beaver Falls to take on Geneva in an important conference matchup. Start time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
