Women's soccer falls in double overtime

Yellow Jackets play right with first-place W&J before dropping 2-1 contest

Box Score

WASHINGTON, Pa. (Oct. 22) – Waynesburg University women's soccer team gave the number-one team in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) all they could handle on Saturday. Unfortunately, the Yellow Jackets came up just short at Washington & Jefferson on Saturday and dropped a 2-1 double-overtime decision to the Presidents.

The Presidents (13-3, 7-0) opened up the scoring with a tally in the 30th minute of competition, but the Yellow Jackets (14-3, 5-2) tied the score at 1-1 thanks to sophomore Susie Godwin. The second-year standout evened things up in the 73rd minute of competition by taking a feed from freshman Kirsten Miller and finding the back of the net.

The game stayed tied at 1-1 until the 105th minute of play when the Presidents were able to end the contest. Though it came in a losing effort, senior goalkeeper Katrina Kelly had a strong day in net. The Dunbar native made 10 saves and helped the Jackets overcome a 20-10 deficit in shots.

Waynesburg returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 26, when they host Bethany for a crucial PAC showdown. The game will also serve as the team's senior night. Start time is slated for 6:30 p.m.
