Women's hoops team receives top seed in ECAC South tournament

Yellow Jackets will host Moravian on Wednesday at Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Feb. 28) – On Monday, the Waynesburg University women's basketball team received word that they were not only selected for the eight-team Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Tournament, but that they were also the top seed.

After putting together one of the best seasons in recent team history, the 18-9 Yellow Jackets learned that they will host eighth-seeded Moravian College (Pa.) on Wednesday, March 2, at 7 p.m. The Greyhounds posted a 14-12 overall record and finished the regular season in a tie for third in the Landmark Conference with Catholic University, which will also be a part of the ECAC South Tournament.

The winner of Wednesday's game will face the winner of fourth-seeded Penn State Erie, the Behrend College, and fifth-seeded Marrywood (Pa.) University. If the Yellow Jackets win, they will not only host their next opponent, but the title game as well. For a complete look at this year's brackets, click here.

This year's selection is believed to be Waynesburg's first invitation to the ECAC South championship tournament in women's basketball. The Jackets were last in action on Friday, when they fell to Saint Vincent, the number-19 team in the country, in the semifinals of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) championship tournament.
