NEW CONCORD, Ohio (Sept. 15) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team won its fifth game in a row on Thursday night by picking up a 3-1 win at Muskingum.
The Yellow Jackets (5-1) raced out to a 3-0 lead before halftime and wasted little time on taking control of the contest. Sophomore
Susie Godwin buried her third goal of the season just 1:48 into the game to make it 1-0 in favor of the visitors. Junior
Chelsey Root notched her second assist of the year setting up the game's first score.
The Jackets doubled their advantage in the 27
th minute when senior
Courtney Ebersole scored her fifth goal of the 2011 campaign off an assist from fellow senior
Terrin Crist. It was Crist's third of the season. Ebersole has now scored in four of the last five games of the year. Waynesburg scored its third and final goal of the contest in the 31
st minute when sophomore
Taylor Augustine took a feed from freshman
Taylor Bombalski and put the ball past Muskingum (1-5) keeper Sarah Poling to make it 3-0 Jackets at halftime.
Muskingum scored its only goal of the contest in the 72
nd minute of the second half. Senior
Katrina Kelly got the start in goal and made four saves to improve to 4-1 for the year.
The Jackets held a major advantage over the Muskies in total shots (23-13) as they rolled to the victory. With their fifth win in a row secured, Waynesburg is now on its second unbeaten streak of at least five games in the last two seasons. They'll look to make it six-straight triumphs on Tuesday, Sept. 20, when they face Penn State Beaver at home. Start time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
