PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Sept. 27) – The Waynesburg women's volleyball team improved its overall record to 8-6 on the season thanks to a 3-0 road win at La Roche on Tuesday.
The victory, which came by the set scores of 25-12, 25-18, 25-22, ties Waynesburg's win total from all of last season (8-21). The Yellow Jackets were led by senior middle hitter
Lauren Wagner, who tallied a team-high nine kills against the Redhawks (4-14). Senior outside hitter
Jordan Barton chipped in six kills, while sophomore middle hitter
Mabel Culp added five.
Junior
Presley Cupp was strong behind the service line with four aces, while sophomore
Natalie Ranallo contributed three service aces in the victory. Both Cupp and Ranallo had productive matches elsewhere on the court, as the junior led her team with 12 digs and the second-year setter notched 14 assists. Junior
Carly Smithyman nearly matched Ranallo's performance with 13 assists.
The Jackets return to PAC play on Thursday, Sept. 29, when they travel to Washington & Jefferson to take on the Presidents. These same two teams met this past Saturday in Waynesburg, where the home team won a thrilling 3-2 contest. Start time on Thursday is scheduled for 7 p.m.
