WASHINGTON, Pa. (Sept. 29) – The Waynesburg University women's volleyball team traveled north to Washington & Jefferson for its second match against the Presidents in five days.
Unfortunately, the Yellow Jackets were unable to duplicate the success they enjoyed this past Saturday as they fell 3-1 to the Presidents on Thursday. With the loss, Waynesburg fell to 8-7 overall and 2-5 in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action.
The Jackets opened the evening by winning the first set 25-23. Unfortunately, W&J ripped off three-straight wins by the set scores of 25-23, 25-22, 25-20 to take the match. Though they came in a losing effort, Waynesburg got a pair of double-double performances from seniors
Jordan Barton and
Lauren Wagner. Barton tallied 10 kills and 17 digs, while Wagner piled up a team-high 16 kills and dug out 15 digs.
Sophomore middle hitter
Mabel Culp also reached double digits in kills with 13, while also picking up four total blocks. Sophomore setter
Natalie Ranallo racked up a team-high 35 assists for the Jackets, while junior
Presley Cupp paced Waynesburg's defensive efforts with a team-best 21 digs.
The Yellow Jackets return to the court on Wednesday, Oct. 5, when they host Grove City in a PAC showdown. Start time for the match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
