NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. (Jan. 25) – The Waynesburg University men's basketball team fell behind by 21 points at halftime and couldn't recover in the second period as the Yellow Jackets dropped a 72-55 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest to Westminster on Wednesday.
The Yellow Jackets (4-15, 1-9) were bombarded by a Titan team that shot 54.5 percent (18-of-33) from the floor in the first half while building a 43-22 halftime lead. Waynesburg was able to cut the lead down to as little as 17 points on multiple occasions, but it wasn't enough against Westminster (4-14, 3-7), which led by as many as 26 before sealing up the win.
The Jackets were led by freshman forward
Jason Propst, who scored a team-high nine points off the bench. Junior center
Kurt Bonnet pulled down a game-high nine rebounds to go along with six points. The Titans were led by a trio of double-digit scorers that included guard Doug Smith, who tallied a game-high 20 points in the win.
Waynesburg out-rebounded its opponent by a 37-36 margin, but lost the turnover battle 22-11.
The Jackets will look to get on the winning track on Saturday, Jan. 28, when Geneva comes to the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse. Tip-off between the two PAC members is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
