Volleyball hosts defending PAC champions

Waynesburg puts up a good fight, but falls 3-0 to Geneva

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 11) – The Waynesburg University volleyball team played two very strong sets against the defending Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) champions from Geneva on Thursday evening. Unfortunately, the Yellow Jackets were unable to take either of the two sets and fell 3-0 to the Golden Tornadoes at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.
 
Waynesburg (5-14, 1-10) had an opportunity to pull ahead early in the match, but Geneva (18-7, 9-3) won 25-20 and 26-24 in the first two sets of the evening, before closing things out with a 25-13 triumph in set three. Junior Mabel Culp led the Waynesburg attack with a team-high eight kills and sported a respectable .353 hitting percentage. Senior Carly Smithyman paced her team in assists with 10, while freshman Jessica Dorazio led the Jacket defense with nine digs.
 
The Jackets will try to get on the winning track tomorrow, when they play host to Thomas More. Start time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
