PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Oct. 13) – The Waynesburg University women's tennis team continued its recent hot play on Saturday, when it traveled to Pittsburgh to face Chatham University. The Yellow Jackets took two-of-three doubles matches on their way to a 6-3 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) win over the Cougars.
The Jackets (6-7, 4-4) won their fourth-straight match by not only performing well in doubles play, but also by winning the final three singles matches of the day. Freshman
Rachel Klemash and sophomore
Alyssa Daniel got things going with an 8-3 victory at first doubles. Chatham (1-9, 1-8) responded with a win at the number-two spot before sophomores
Ellen Limback and
Madison DuBrock took an 8-4 triumph at third doubles.
Klemash moved to 2-0 on the day after her opponent retired at number-one singles. Chatham fired back by picking up wins at second and third singles, but it wasn't enough, as Yellow Jackets claimed victory in flights four, five and six. Junior
Markie Gustafson got things going with a back-and-forth 6-1, 0-6, 6-2 win at the number-four spot. Freshman
Sarah Reyes won in straight sets (6-4, 6-3) at number-five singles to clinch the win for Waynesburg. DuBrock put the final touches on the victory with a 6-0, 6-2 triumph at the sixth flight.
Waynesburg will try to move over .500 in PAC competition for the first time this year on Tuesday, Oct. 16, when the Jackets conclude their conference match with Washington & Jefferson. Before the contest was postponed by darkness back on Thursday, Oct. 11, the Presidents were able to build a 4-3 lead.
