Women's soccer scores road win at Thiel

Yellow Jackets shutout Tomcats 2-0

Box Score

GREENVILLE, Pa. (Oct. 2) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team improved to 2-0 in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play by picking up a 2-0 win at Thiel on a rainy Tuesday afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets (6-5, 2-0) and Tomcats (3-6-1, 0-2) went back-and-forth through most of the first half locked in a 0-0 tie. However, with just over one minute remaining until halftime, sophomore Emily Mullady scored an unassisted goal to put her team up 1-0.

Clinging to its one-goal advantage, Waynesburg was finally able to double its lead in the 78th minute of action when junior Taylor Augustine took a feed from classmate Susie Godwin and fired in the game's second score to put the visitors up 2-0. The Jackets held on to the victory, despite being out-shot five-to-four in the second half of play.

Waynesburg freshman Ciara Scott picked up her second-straight shutout of the season, both by the final score of 2-0, after playing all 90 minutes in net and pulling in three saves, all of which came in the second period.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday, Oct. 5, when they host Grove City for a 6 p.m. matchup at John F. Wiley Stadium.
