WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 25) – The Waynesburg University volleyball team saved maybe its best performance of the season for its final home match of 2012. On Thursday, the Yellow Jackets defeated Washington & Jefferson 3-1 on senior night at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.
The Jackets (8-18, 3-14) began the night by winning sets one and two by the scores of 25-21 and 25-13, respectively. After W&J (10-14, 4-13) responded with a 25-12 victory in set three, the home team closed up the win by taking set four 25-13.The triumph came after seniors
Presley Cupp and
Carly Smithyman were honored in a pre-match ceremony.
Junior
Mabel Culp had a big night in the win, as she went for a team-high 16 kills. Junior
Amanda Silay added eight kills in the win. Smithyman had a big night in her final home match of her collegiate career by racking up a Jacket-best 17 assists., while junior
Natalie Ranallo tacked on 12 assists. Freshman
Jessica Dorazio paced the Waynesburg defense with a team-high 23 digs, while Silay added 21 digs and Cupp chipped in 17 digs.
The Jackets will wrap up the 2012 season on Saturday, Oct. 27, when they travel to Greenville, Pa. to face Thiel. Start time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
