WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 9) – The Waynesburg University women's tennis team won its third-straight match on Tuesday afternoon, by taking down Thiel 8-1 on its home courts.
Five different Yellow Jackets (5-7, 3-4) went 2-0 on the day, which started with the home team sweeping all three doubles matches from the Tomcats (2-14, 1-7). Freshmen
Rachel Klemash and
Rachel Wilson got things going with an 8-3 win at first doubles. They were followed by the number-two doubles pair of junior
Markie Gustafson and freshman
Sarah Reyes, who earned an 8-4 triumph. The sweep was completed by the sophomore pair of
Madison DuBrock and
Ellen Limback, who won 8-0 at third doubles.
The Jackets kept things rolling in singles competition, as Klemash won in straight sets (6-3, 6-0) at the number-one spot, before Limback earned a 3-6, 6-2 (10-6) triumph at the number-two position. After Thiel picked up its only victory of the day at third singles, the home squad swept the final three singles flights to seal up the win. Reyes (6-3, 6-3), DuBrock (6-1, 6-1) and Wilson (6-1, 6-0) all won by straight sets at fourth, fifth and sixth singles, respectively.
Waynesburg will try to extend its season-best winning streak to four matches on Thursday, Oct. 11, when the Jackets head to Washington & Jefferson to face the Presidents. Start time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
