WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Dec. 5) – After racing out to an 8-0 lead against Grove City on Wednesday night, the Waynesburg University women's basketball team looked poised to pick up its second conference win of the year. Unfortunately, The Yellow Jackets cooled off from their hot start and ended up dropping the contest by a 59-46 final.
Grove City (2-1, 3-2) limited Waynesburg (1-2, 2-5) to just 23 percent shooting from the field en route to the win. The Wolverines outscored their opponents 38-21 in the second half to overcome a slight 25-21 halftime deficit.

Hayden Giuliani sparked Waynesburg's early run before a layup by senior
Jessi Drayer completed the early surge. Grove City responded with a 10-3 run to cut the Jackets' lead to 11-10 with 10:33 to play in the first half. Waynesburg responded well to the GCC challenge, by going on an 11-0 run that put the home team ahead 22-10 with 6:10 to play in the first half.
Grove City methodically crawled back into the contest and used an 11-3 run to close out the first half. Waynesburg started out the second period just as strongly as they did the first, moving the lead back to seven when Giuliani made a layup in the paint to push the lead to 31-24 at the 17:59 mark. That was as big a lead as Waynesburg enjoyed for the remainder of the contest and Grove City retook the lead on a three-pointer that made it 34-33 with just under 15 minutes left to play. The Wolverines saw their lead swell to as many as 13 by out-scoring Waynesburg 19-6 over the final 8:14 of the contest.
Grove City's biggest offensive advantage came from behind the three-point arc. The visiting Wolverines connected on seven-of-16 three pointers (43.8 percent), while Waynesburg struggled to find its shooting touch from distance, making just one more three pointer after Giuliani's initial two makes at the start of the contest.
The battle on the glass was virtually even, with Waynesburg holding a 49-47 advantage.
Drayer led the way for Waynesburg with 14 points. Meanwhile, Senior guard
Brittany Spencer posted her third double-double on the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Junior forward
Elaine Hasek added nine rebounds. Freshman guard
Lauren Blair collected a game-high three steals to lead the Jacket's defense.
Waynesburg will try to get back in the win column in conference play with a trip to Beaver Falls on Saturday to face Geneva. Tip-off between the Jackets and Golden Tornadoes is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
