Men's hoopsters suffer road loss

Yellow Jackets can't hold up against hot shooting Grove City

GROVY CITY, Pa. (Feb. 15) – The final road trip of the 2011-12 season was a rough one for the Waynesburg University men's basketball team, which traveled to Grove City on Wednesday night. The Yellow Jackets faced a hot-shooting Wolverines team, which connected on 50 percent of its three-point tries and ran away with an 82-64 win.
 
The Jackets (4-20, 1-14) fell behind 41-29 at halftime and things didn't get any easier in the second half. The Wolverines (11-12, 7-8) knocked down six-of-nine three-point tries in the second half and 11-of-22 attempts from downtown on the night, while also shooting 51.7 percent (30-of-58) from the floor.
 
Waynesburg led 18-17 with 11:18 left to play in the first half, but a 7-0 run by the Wolverines put the home team ahead 24-18. Grove City never trailed from that point on and built up leads as large as 24 points on multiple occasions.
 
Junior center Kurt Bonnet led the Jackets with a game-high 17 points on seven-of-12 shooting. Freshman forward Jason Propst chipped in 13 points off the bench in just 16 minutes of action, while junior point guard Ben Altmeyer recorded 12 points and a team-high six rebounds.
 
The Yellow Jackets will try to bounce back on Saturday as they host Washington & Jefferson for their regular season finale. The game, which will also serve as Waynesburg's senior day, is scheduled to tip-off around 3:30 p.m.
