Yellow Jackets go 4-2 in singles play en route to 6-3 victory over Bison

Box Score

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 11) – The Waynesburg University women's tennis team played its first home match of the year against Bethany on Tuesday. The Yellow Jackets improved to 1-1 in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action by downing the Bison 6-3.

The Jackets (2-2) started things off by winning two-of-three in doubles action. After Bethany (0-4, 0-3) won at first doubles, the sophomore pair of Madison DuBrock and Ellen Limback picked up an 8-3 win at the number-two spot. Waynesburg moved ahead 2-1 thanks to the first-year pair of Sarah Reyes and Emily Meier downing Jordan Jones and Dee Gamble 8-2.

Solo competition began in a similar fashion as Bethany won at first singles, but the Jackets rebounded at the number-two spot when sophomore Alyssa Daniel scored a 6-2, 6-1 straight-set victory over Sarah Geier. After Bethany picked up its final win of the afternoon at the third spot, the home team put things away by winning out over the final three flights of the match.

Junior Markie Gustafson (6-2, 6-1), Reyes (6-1, 6-1) and DuBrock (6-1, 6-0) all won in straight sets at fourth, fifth and sixth singles, respectively, to end the day on a high note.

The Jackets are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 15, when they welcome Westminster to Waynesburg. Start time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
