Women's volleyball sweeps home tri-match

Waynesburg takes 3-2 thriller from Carlow before downing Pitt-Greensburg 3-1

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 22) – The Waynesburg University women's volleyball team continued its string of recent strong play Saturday when it hosted a tri-match with Carlow College and Pitt-Greensburg at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse. The Yellow Jacket women upped their overall record to 5-8 with the sweep of both the Celtics and the Bobcats.
 
In the first match of the day, Waynesburg got off to a fine start, winning set one 25-10. The Celtics took the next two sets 28-26 and 25-13. However, the Jackets hung tough and won a hard-fought fourth set 28-26 before taking another close set 15-13 to give them the match.
 
The Jackets had a slightly easier time in match number two as they beat Pitt-Greensburg 3-1. Waynesburg took the first two sets 25-17 and 25-9, before allowing Pitt-Greensburg to take set three 25-22. The Jackets sealed the deal in set four with a 25-17 victory over the Bobcats.

 
Waynesburg jumps back into action Wednesday, Sept. 26, with a road trip to Pittsburgh to face Carnegie Mellon. The match against the Tartans is set for 7 p.m.
