Volleyball hits the road to tangle with Franciscan

Yellow Jackets drop 3-1 match to Barons

Box Score

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (Sept. 5) – The Waynesburg University volleyball team hit the road on Wednesday night for a non-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match at Franciscan. The Yellow Jackets dropped the contest by a 3-1 final, but the set scores indicated a much closer battle with the Barons.

After Franciscan (3-2) took the first two sets by the scores of 25-23 and 25-22, Waynesburg (2-3) responded with a 25-21 victory in the third set. Unfortunately, the home team closed out the night with a 25-22 win in set four to seal up the decision.

Junio Amanda Silay had a productive night in which she posted a double-double with a team-high 13 kills and 18 digs. Junior middle hitter Mabel Culp chipped in 11 kills, while sophomore Tori Kramer piled up a team-best five aces. Waynesburg was led defensively by freshman Jessica Dorazio, who piled up 27 digs.

With the early-season portion of its non-PAC schedule wrapped up, Waynesburg turns its attention to conference play, which gets underway this weekend with a tri-match at Grove City. The Jackets will square off with Thiel at 1 p.m., before facing the host Wolverines at 3 p.m.
