WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Jan. 11) – On Saturday, Jan. 12, the Waynesburg University men's basketball team will be hosting an alumni day in conjunction with its 1 p.m. home game with Frostburg State. Men's basketball alumni from the 1970's and 1980's are both encouraged to attend the event and will be recognized during halftime.
The Waynesburg men's basketball program flourished during those two decades, particularly between the years 1983 and 1988, when the Jackets, under the guidance of legendary head coach Rudy Marisa, went 131-21. The 1987-88 squad was the crown jewel of the era, going 32-3 and reaching the NAIA Final Four.
Admission to the game between the Yellow Jackets and Bobcats is free and all alumni planning on attending the event are encouraged to contact the Waynesburg University Office of Alumni Relations at 724-852-3256 to RSVP. A reception including the alumni and the current Waynesburg squad will take place following the game in the gymnasium. Alumni will be recognized at halftime of the FSU game.
