PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Jan. 12) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team traveled to Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opponent Chatham on Saturday and came away with its fourth-straight win, which came in the form of an 83-49 victory.
The Yellow Jackets (7-8, 6-2) opened up a 39-27 halftime lead, but pulled away by out-scoring the Cougars (2-13, 1-7) 44-22 in the final 20 minutes of action. Waynesburg was paced by a quartet of double-digit scorers.
Freshman guard
Gina Rievel led the way with a game-high 14 points on six-of-10 shooting. Junior
Elaine Hasek added 13 points, while senior guard
Jessi Drayer and
Brittany Spencer chipped in 12 points each. Drayer and Spencer were also the top two rebounders on the day, going for eight and seven boards, respectively. The Jackets held sizeable advantages in field goal shooting, rebounding, assists and turnovers in the win.
Waynesburg will look to keep its hot play going on Wednesday, Jan. 16, when the Jackets host Saint Vincent for what could wind up being a crucial conference tilt when it comes to seeding for the postseason tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
