Things to Watch For
  • Waynesburg's potent offense, which comes into Saturday averaging 33.2 points per game, will face a stiff test in the Grove City defense, which ranks second in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) in points given up per game (21.0).
  • Saturday's game features two of the top kickers in the PAC. The Yellow Jackets' Alex Henry is having a fine senior season in which he has connected on 20-of-21 PAT attempts, with his only miss coming by block. He has also nailed down a conference-high four field goals in five tries, which also makes him the most accurate kicker in the league. GCC freshman Ryan Stewart has hit on 14-of-16 extra point tries, while also knocking in two-of-three field goal attempts.
  • Speaking of special teams, Grove City also boasts one of the PAC's top punters in freshman Anthony Marnejon, who is the current PAC Special Teams Player of the Week. He averaged 43.0 yards per punt Saturday in the Wolverines' 24-21 victory over Westminster. With 25 seconds left in the game, he boomed a 49-yard punt that forced Westminster to start at its own 28-yard line.
  • Senior defenders Bryan Gary and Ben Manwaring are expected to be all over the field this weekend. Manwaring leads Grove City with 44 total tackles, while Gary is Waynesburg's top tackler (43 total stops). The Yellow Jacket offense will also need to keep track of another senior Wolverine defender in Chris Gibbs, who is tied with Gary for seventh place in the PAC in total tackles.
  • Speaking of defense, Waynesburg senior defensive end Brandon Fedorka and Grove City junior linebacker Jason Skyrm are two of the best in the PAC in causing havoc in opposing backfields. Fedorka leads the conference in tackles for loss with 10.0 stops behind the line of scrimmage, while Skyrm is just behind him second place with 8.0 tfl.
  • The Jackets are currently riding a three-game winning streak against Grove City. However, the Wolverines won back-to-back meetings in 2008 and 2009.
