Box Score

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Oct. 10) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team got back in the win column by downing Chatham 3-0 in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play Wednesday afternoon.

A fast start by the Yellow Jackets (4-6, 1-1) saw them score three first-half goals as they snapped a three-game losing streak and earned their first PAC victory of the season. Senior midfielder Susie Godwin got the Jackets on the board first in the 8th minute of the contest with her third goal of the season. Fellow senior Taylor Augustine assisted on the Jackets' opening tally.

Early momentum allowed the Jackets to score on two more occasions later in the first half. Junior forward Natalie Abraham scored her team-high fifth goal of the season, which pushed the Jacket lead to 2-0 in the 23rd minute. Shortly thereafter, junior Erica Nordlund added a score in the 27th minute to expand the visiting team's lead to 3-0.

The defense held strong and made that lead standup for the rest of the contest, limiting Chatham (1-9, 0-2) to just four shots on goal on the day. Sophomore goalkeeper Ciara Scott earned the victory in goal, stopping three shots over the first 74-plus minutes. Scott then gave way to junior Alyssa Ehlert, who recorded one save over the final 15-plus minutes of the contest.

Waynesburg held the advantage in shots (16-to-seven), but both teams were even on corner kicks with four each. The Orange and Black will look to make it two wins in a row when they host Thiel on Saturday, Oct. 12. The match with the Tomcats is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
