Women's soccer opens PAC play

Jackets allow three late goals in 4-1 loss to Grove City

Box Score

GROVE CITY, Pa. (Oct. 4) – After falling behind early in its first Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game of the season, the Waynesburg University women's soccer team rebounded to tie its game against Grove City in the second half. Unfortunately, the Wolverines buried three unanswered goals not long after the Yellow Jackets' first score and went on to win 4-1 on Friday.

GCC (4-6-1, 1-0) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute of play and maintained its advantage into the second half. The Yellow Jackets (3-6, 0-1) tied things up when sophomore Karleigh Murphey fired in an unassisted goal during the 61st minute of action and grabbed the momentum in the conference opener.

Unfortunately, the Wolverines were more than ready to respond, as they scored three unanswered goals in just over four minutes between the 73rd and 77th minutes to put the game out of reach. The home team out-shot the visiting Jackets by a 19-to-10 margin and attempted 10 corner kicks, to just five for Waynesburg. Sophomore Ciara Scott made six saves in net for the Orange and Black.

Waynesburg will take another shot at its first PAC win on Wednesday, Oct. 9, when the Jackets travel to Pittsburgh to face Chatham. Start time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
