WASHINGTON, Pa. (April 2) – The Waynesburg University baseball team traveled to Washington & Jefferson on Tuesday afternoon for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader against the Presidents. The Yellow Jackets had their hands full with the nationally recognized Presidents and suffered a sweep at the hands of the host team by the final scores of 9-2 and 13-4.

The Jackets (9-8, 2-3) fell behind 9-0 after three innings of play in the opener, but rebounded to out-score the Presidents (10-5, 7-1) 2-0 over the second half of the contest. Junior centerfielder
Clay Roman continued to add on to what has already been a fine first year with the Jackets by driving in senior second baseman
David Houseman in the fifth for Waynesburg's first run of the game. The visitors' other score came in the seventh, when senior right fielder
Adam Horning connected on a sacrifice fly that allowed sophomore leftfielder
Kyle Weyand to score from third base.

Sophomore
J. Jay Paskert suffered the loss on the mound after giving up nine runs, six of which were earned, on nine hits and two walks. Sophomore
Sean Boyle and junior
Drew Heinle were almost unhittable out of the bullpen. Over three innings, the pair gave up just one hit and one walk.

The Jackets were the victims of another slow start in game two, as W&J scored seven runs in the first inning off starting pitcher
Connor Furwa. The Presidents eventually built their advantage up to 11-0, before the Orange and Black was able to put together some big offensive numbers of its own in the top of the fourth frame.

Young reserves
Neal Yakopin and
Brent Williams came off the bench to drive in one run each, as Waynesburg put up a four-spot in the top of the fourth inning. W&J closed out the scoring with a run in the fifth and a run in the sixth frames, respectively.

Freshman
Connor Furwa took the loss on the mound after allowing seven runs, all earned, on seven hits and a walk. Sophomore
Thomas Ellis, freshman
Aaron Gardocki, Heinle and senior
Tim Chilcote combined to work the remainder of the contest.

Roman posted Waynesburg's biggest offensive numbers on the day by going five-for-eight (.625) at the plate with an RBI. Houseman scored a team-high two runs against the Presidents.

The Jackets will look to bounce back from Tuesday's losses on Friday, April 5, when they travel to Saint Vincent for a nine-inning game against the Bearcats. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
