WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 17) – In 2012, the Waynesburg University women's tennis team had one of its best performances ever against the 2011 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) champions from Grove City. A very young Yellow Jacket team fell 6-3 to the Wolverines, but showed that it was starting to make noticeable improvements. On Tuesday, the Jackets welcomed the 2012 PAC champions from Saint Vincent College, and came even closer to upsetting the reigning conference queens of the courts.

Waynesburg won three-out-of-six singles matches and added a doubles triumph during a 5-4 loss to the Bearcats. The Jackets' (4-3, 1-2) first victory against the Cats (5-2, 4-0) came at second doubles, where sophomore
Sarah Reyes teamed up with senior
Markie Gustafson to pick up an 8-5 triumph. The number-three doubles pair of junior
Madison DuBrock and sophomore
Rachel Wilson had a chance to pick up a potentially match-deciding win before coming up short 8-5.

Saint Vincent clinched the match by winning at first-through-third singles, but the home team kept things close by sweeping flights four-through six. Reyes, (fourth), DuBrock (fifth) and junior
Lauren Cowden (sixth) all took straight-set victories. Cowden improved to 7-0 on the season at the final singles position. Much like the doubles side of things, the Jackets had a chance at a possible match-deciding win, when sophomore
Rachel Klemash put up a terrific fight in a 7-5, 6-3 loss at the number-one spot.

Waynesburg continues through a difficult stretch of conference matches on Thursday, Sept. 19, when the Jackets travel to Grove City. Start time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
