Women's soccer shuts out Bluffton

Godwin leads the way to 3-0 victory with a goal and an assist

Box Score

BLUFFTON, Ohio (Sept. 18) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team put together perhaps its most complete effort of the 2013 season during Wednesday's 3-0 win over Bluffton. The Yellow Jackets tossed their first shutout of the year and scored their second-most goals of the season in a 3-0 victory over the Beavers.

Waynesburg (2-3) wasted little time in grabbing a lead over the home team, as freshman Rachel Ball took a pass from senior Susie Godwin and scored her first collegiate goal to put the Yellow Jackets up 1-0 after just 4:47 of play. The Jackets doubled their advantage during the 32nd minute of play, when Godwin found herself on the receiving end of an assist from junior Becky Hotek.

Waynesburg maintained its 2-0 lead over Bluffton (2-3) until the 78th minute of play, when junior Taylor Bombalski fired in an unassisted goal to bring about the final score of 3-0. Bombalski's first goal of the season was one of 17 shots attempted by the Jackets in the win. That total more than doubled the seven shots recorded by the Beavers on the night.

Sophomore Ciara Scott had her best game in net this season, by making six saves for the shutout.

Waynesburg will look to keep its winning ways going on Wednesday, Sept. 25, when it welcomes La Roche to John F. Wiley Stadium for a 6 p.m. matchup.
