Volleyball loses heart-breaker at La Roche

Waynesburg jumps out 2-0, before falling 3-2 to Redhawks

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Sept. 21) – The Waynesburg University volleyball team jumped out to a 2-0 lead in Saturday's match at La Roche College, and looked poised to avenge a loss from earlier in the season. Unfortunately, the host Redhawks took the next two sets and then completed the comeback with a victory in set number five to down the Yellow Jackets.
 
The visiting team (6-10) looked strong in taking the opening set 25-13 and grabbed a 2-0 lead by besting the Hawks (8-5) 25-23. Unfortunately, the home team rebounded by taking both sets three and four by identical 25-21 scores. La Roche put the match away with a 15-11 final in set five.
 
Senior middle hitter Mabel Culp tied for the match high with 16 kills. Fellow seniors Sam Styche and Amanda Silay chipped in nine and eight kills, respectively, while junior Tori Kramer put down eight successful attacks. Senior Natalie Ranallo assisted on 37 of the Jackets' kills.
 
Sophomore Jessica Dorazio paced Waynesburgs' defensive efforts with a team-high 21 digs, while Silay added 19 digs. Ranallo had a big night at the net, going for a team-high six blocks, four of which were solo stuffs.
 
Waynesburg gets back to action on Wednesday, Sept. 25, with a road trip to PAC opponent Saint Vincent College. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
